DESIGNING A FUTURE VARANASI WITHOUT LOSING ITS SOUL.

An imagined future is more compelling when it has a past.

For Project SAMVIT, Varanasi is more than a backdrop. Riverfront steps, layered buildings, narrow lanes and the changing relationship between people and the Ganga offer a foundation for believable environmental storytelling. The design challenge is to evoke recognizable textures without treating real places as interchangeable decoration.

Early environment work focuses on the play space: where players can move, what draws attention, and how a level can communicate without constant instructions. Only after these questions are understood does additional visual detail help.

WHY EXTRACTION GAMES MAKE EVERY DECISION COUNT.

A loadout becomes more interesting when leaving safely is not guaranteed.

EXFIL PROTOCOL is an opportunity to study how preparation, uncertainty and loss change player decisions. Contracts give a reason to enter the field. Equipment makes the approach personal. Extraction creates a meaningful ending to an otherwise open-ended encounter.

The prototype's design questions concern pacing and clarity: what a player knows before deployment, how danger is signaled during a raid, and whether rewards balance the risk. The goal is not merely to copy an existing loop but to understand why it works.

USING AI AS A TOOL, NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR DESIGN.

Better tools should make intentional design easier.

AI-assisted workflows can help organize documentation, investigate code, and explore interaction concepts. For games, interesting research questions include reliability, responsiveness, repeatability, performance, safety and whether the experience remains coherent under player experimentation.

These are research directions at XStudios, not claims of finished products or commercial integrations.
